Eczema, or genital herpes?

Genital herpes and jock itch are not confused, but genital herpes in its early stages can be confused with Jock itch since both conditions have similar symptoms. Both are uncomfortable, producing red, irritated skin and appear on the thighs, groin or genital area. However, are usually easy to differentiate. This article is designed to help avoid confusion.

Jock itch is caused by a fungus called Trichophyton rubrum. It can grow into any body part, but more often appears in the warm, humid areas of the groin. Sweaty or tight clothing and direct contact with fungus can lead to a case of jock itch. Jock itch can occur in both men and women, but mainly affects adult men. Like genital herpes, Jock itch can be contagious and can spread from one person to another by skin-to-skin contact or contact with the unwashed clothing.

Genital herpes is an infection virus is transmitted. The virus can lie dormant for some time, but outbreaks usually occur within 30 days of sexual contact. The first outbreak of herpes usually be the most severe, but not necessarily. Stages of herpes infection are: itching, rash, itching, burning, swelling, blisters, sores crust and return to healthy skin, without scars. These symptoms usually last no longer than three weeks. Genital herpes symptoms can vary widely and may consist of only in a mild rash that disappears within 10 days and may return from time to time.

The confusion in self-diagnosis of each condition is that both diseases affect the groin area. Both begin with a red rash, itching and bumps on the skin. They are uncomfortable and can cause pain for several days. Jock itch usually causes red, raised, scaly patches that may blister and ooze. The patches are often redder around the outside with normal skin tone in the center. This can cause a red ring to appear. The skin may become abnormally dark or light.

Jock itch differs from genital herpes, as it usually does not develop in the scrotum or penis. It tends to spread in the inner thigh area instead. However, a rash of scabies may also affect the genitals and areas around the anus, rectum or vagina. The skin may crack and the scale and be painful, but usually not this open wounds as if they were with genital herpes. Does not cause genital herpes infections long term. returns for healthy skin after 3 weeks, although slight change in skin color can result. Jock itch and genital herpes symptoms can both occur at any time. Jock itch can be cured after each episode, but there is no cure or vaccine has been found for herpes yet.

The only sure way that condition you have is to see a doctor. Generally, physicians can recognize jock itch during a physical examination. But sometimes, they may decide to make a test. Or take out a swab test if you have blisters or a skin lesion biopsy of the skin by scraping. If all else fails, a blood test should be removed any questions.

To cure jock itch, a doctor will prescribe anti-fungal cream or lotion to apply directly to the source of fungal infection. Doctors can prescribe medication, or if you suffer from recurrent yeast infections, over the counter medicine like Tinactin, Lotrimin Micatin and are available. Cream should be used for two weeks, and continued for several days after the rash has completely disappeared. If your jock itch does not go away or cause blisters, there go to your doctor for a physical exam.

Genital herpes can not be cured, but symptoms can be treated with an anti-viral medication that will help to limit the duration of an outbreak.
